I’ve recently had the honor and privilege of doing a complete blog and website overhaul for Hazel Thornton of Organized for Life in Albuquerque, who is a regular participant in the Professional Organizers Blog Carnival. We’re both very pleased with the end result, shown below.

Organized for Life

Hazel approached me this summer with an interesting challenge. She had developed her original website several years ago, using a do-it-yourself site builder offered by her web host. When she began to sell her Clutter Flow Charts, she added an e-commerce component which was built into the existing site, but didn’t flow smoothly with the other content. It was also beginning to look a little dated.

When Hazel decided to begin blogging in 2011, she set up her blog on WordPress.com, matching the design to her existing website as much as possible. However, she soon realized that her website wasn’t benefiting from the extra traffic generated by her blogging activities.

After reviewing both of Hazel’s sites, I developed a plan to integrate everything into a self-hosted WordPress site, restructure it to make it more user-friendly, and eliminate the added expense of the ecommerce system. She made a few modifications to my initial plan, and I proceeded to bring the new vision to life.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Hazel, and I was pleased to see she felt the same way when I received the following recommendation on LinkedIn:

I am thrilled with my new WordPress website! This was my first time working with a virtual assistant, but I learned early on that I could trust Janet to do what needed doing, and ask what needed asking. She was a dream to work with!

It’s too early to say whether the changes will result in increased sales of Hazel’s Clutter Flow Charts, time management e-book, or organizing services, but she’s already reaping other benefits. As she says,

It’s like getting a wardrobe makeover. Discarding old clothing while wondering, “What was I thinking?!”

2-1/2 years later, I am still thrilled with my website! And Janet is still assisting me on a regular basis. I do a lot of my own website upgrades (adding pages, editing them, etc.), but sometimes I get stuck. At those times, Janet either points me in the right direction, or I ask her to just do it for me. Last year she helped me set up a new shopping cart and affiliate program. I refer her to my colleagues all the time. Thanks, Janet!

Thank YOU, Hazel! I’m constantly amazed at (and grateful for) the number of prospective clients who tell me that you recommended me to them.
