Decision-Making – Professional Organizers Blog Carnival

Welcome to the first issue of the Professional Organizers Blog Carnival for 2015! After hours and hours of considering various options, I finally nailed down the topic of Decision-Making.

I’m kidding, of course. This fabulous topic was chosen by our sponsor, Hazel Thornton, creator of The Clutter Flow Chart Collection. So let’s kick off the year with a post by Hazel herself: Decisions, Decisions….

Word must be getting out about the Professional Organizers Blog Carnival, because we have seven new contributors this month! Please show them a warm welcome by reading their posts, commenting, and sharing them on social media.

And be sure to bookmark or pin this post, because there are many more interesting submissions here that you won’t want to miss! I’ve organized them by subcategory so you can easily find the information that’s most pertinent to your – or your client’s – situation.

How we make decisions

How to make decisions

Deciding what to keep and what to let go of

The impact of making (or not making) decisions

As someone who often struggles with indecision, I found all of this advice to be invaluable. I even collected a few posts that I found especially helpful (along with a few other resources) on my Pinterest board, Decisions, Decisions!

Thanks to everyone who participated in this month’s Professional Organizers Blog Carnival, especially our sponsor, Hazel Thornton, creator of The Clutter Flow Chart Collection.

Next month’s Blog Carnival topic is Organizing for Couples, and it will be sponsored by Stacey Agin Murray, author of The Organized Bride’s Thank You Note Handbook. We’ll start accepting submissions tomorrow, and I look forward to reading your posts.

Making decisions effectively is a huge part of getting and staying productive! A lot of great advise above from my peers!

Thanks, Nicole! That’s a great post. I’ve never heard of Decision Trees before but I like the idea. Can they be used for decisions of all types and scopes?

What an exciting group of posts about decision-making! This is at the core of the work we do as organizers. Without effective decisions and an understanding of what or why we’re trying to decide, it’s very challenging and frustrating to experience forward movement.

Looking forward to learning more from my wonderful colleagues.

Thank you, Janet for a great topic to start off 2015!

Yes, there are so many decisions to be made when organizing! What to keep, where to keep it, what to do with everything else… And a good organizer like yourself, who recognizes that the decision-making process is different for each person and situation, can really help clients through that process and work towards the desired end result.

Lots of good reading in this Carnival, Janet. Thanks. Visitors who found ideas here helpful might be interested in a TED talk I heard recently called “The Paradox of Choice” which also helps explain why we often have a hard time making decisions, and being happy with the decisions we’ve made.
