The four most popular social media sites today are Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube. You’re probably already using at least one of these sites to promote your organizing business, but there are literally hundreds of social networks, and there may be others that would be a good place for you to reach a new audience. I’ve recently discovered Quora, and I think it would be worthwhile for you to check it out too.

As described on their website,

Quora is a continually improving collection of questions and answers created, edited, and organized by everyone who uses it.

It’s very easy to get started. You can sign up by using your existing Twitter or Facebook account (one less user name and password to remember – woo hoo!) or set up an account using your email address and a password of your choosing. Once you’re logged in, you can easily find out which of your Facebook friends or people you follow on Twitter are also on Quora, and to follow them there as well.

When you follow someone on Quora, you will see the questions and answers they post, questions they follow, and answers they vote for.

In addition to following individual users, you can follow topics. That way, when someone posts a question in your area of expertise, such as Home Organization, you’ll be able to share your answer right away. You can even have those questions show up in your Twitter feed, so if you’re already using Twitter frequently, you don’t have to log into Quora to find out if there are new questions for you to answer.

You can also follow specific questions, which is especially valuable if there’s a topic you want to learn more about. When you read the various answers posted on a question, you can “vote up” the good answers and “vote down” the bad ones. These votes will affect which answers come up first in the list.

Each users’ profile shows the questions they’ve asked, answered, followed, and voted for, as well as the number of votes their answers have received. If you’d like to ask or answer a question, but for some reason don’t want it linked to your profile, you have the option of doing so anonymously.

Quora is also much more social than other Q&A sites. If you see a question you think one of your contacts can answer, you can simply click to share it on Twitter or Facebook, or send it directly to another Quora user. There’s even a tool for posting a question and its answers on your blog, if you use WordPress.com or Tumblr.

The best way to get noticed is to post good answers to questions relevant to your business. You can find those questions by typing keywords and phrases into the search box at the top of the screen.

It’s the type of site you could get lost in for hours, and I find there are fewer distractions when I use the Quora app.

I’m not yet very active on the site, but if you decide to sign up, please feel free to follow me!

This is the first I have heard about this site and your post is from 2011! Jeez where have I been? This is the kind of site I could spend hours on! Love it! Thanks!

It never took off like a lot of other social media sites, but it’s still there! I don’t go there much anymore… maybe it’s time to check it out again!
