Combining households — whether due to marriage, moving in with a partner, blending families, or caring for aging parents — can be an exciting but overwhelming transition. As a professional organizer, you’ve likely seen firsthand how challenging this process can be, emotionally and logistically.
Clients often face tough decisions about what to keep, what to let go of, and how to merge two sets of belongings into one functional, harmonious space. There’s also the challenge of navigating different organizing styles, sentimental attachments, and sometimes a bit of turf protection.
For this edition of the Productivity & Organizing Blog Carnival, I invited my readers to share their blog posts about helping clients combine households. Their practical tips, success stories, and lessons learned from difficult situations will be valuable as you help your clients – or yourself – through this major life change.
If you offer a product or service that would interest professional organizers, productivity consultants, or their clients, maximize your exposure by sponsoring an upcoming edition of the Productivity & Organizing Blog Carnival.

It’s no easy task to combine households. What a great topic this month and filled with terrific advice. Thank you so much for including me along with these fabulous colleagues.
You are most welcome, Linda!
Having your own space means making your own rules; having to share your space can cause all sorts of kerfuffles. This was a great idea for a carnival topic, and I’m so thankful to be included with my esteemed colleagues.
My sister and I have talked on and off about possibly living together when our spouses are gone (because of course we will outlive them both) but suspect living together would not be as fun as just spending time together. And the older we get, the more we get stuck in our ways!
