My first organizer interview for 2023 spotlights Alice Price of Organize Long Island. Alice has been in business since 2002, and I remember reaching out to her when I was starting my own business. I’ve had the privilege of caring for her website for a number of years, so I’m especially happy to feature her here.
In addition to providing on site organizing in Suffolk and Nassau Counties on Long Island, New York, Alice offers coaching and virtual organizing services, which are not geographically restricted.
Alice, what is your specialty?
Helping folks who struggle with Chronic Disorganization. I am the only ICD certified Hoarding Specialist on Long Island.
I seem to have found a new niche (or it found me) helping retired and divorced or widowed executives who have never had to handle their own ‘admin’ tasks.
What other services or products do you offer?
I enjoy helping people ‘rightsize’ or empty and prepare a home for sale
Do you offer any products or services for other organizers?
Not as such. I do some unofficial mentoring.
How do you approach a new organizing project?
With a great deal of curiosity. No two jobs are alike. I do a phone intake and email questionnaire. In addition to understanding the client’s goals, they give me insight into expectations and boundaries.
How did you come up with your business name?
20 years ago, the geographical reference seemed important.
Has it helped to have your location in your business name?
I think having Long Island in the name helps people find me.
How has your business changed since you first started out?
I have added coaching and virtual organizing.
At what moment did you consider yourself successful?
Probably when I got business cards and went to my first Conference.
What would you do differently if you were starting your business today?
I would have gotten involved in Social Media.
What do you think you’ve missed by not being active on social media?
I am sure I have lost business.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve discovered about running an organizing business?
How much I enjoy helping people to restore their confidence in themselves and realize how much they can do.
What is the biggest challenge you currently face in your business?
At 74 years old, I am transitioning into less physical organizing.
And realizing it is far easier to guide someone else through their transitions than to handle my own.
What professional associations or other organizations do you belong to?
ICD – the Institute for Challenging Disorganization
NAPO – National Association of Productivity and Organizing Professionals
NAIPC – National Aging In Place Council
What’s your favorite organizing product? Why?
I am not big on products.
Most clients do not need additional products but rather a commitment to consistently use the products they already have.
What do you like to do when you’re not working?
Walk, read, enjoy family and friends.
What else should we know about you?
I LOVE what I do!

So nice to read about Alice, especially knowing her specialties as she is in my neck of the woods. I love having people I can refer when I’m contacted by someone who is just a it too far away. Thanks for sharing!
Yes, it’s always fun to run into local people when we’re online or out and about in the world, isn’t it?
Hi Seana, We are close as the crow flies
I love Alice! I’ve known her almost as long as I’ve been in NAPO (since 2002) and she is a delight to be around. When she says, “Most clients do not need additional products but rather a commitment to consistently use the products they already have.” I want to stand up and cheer!
Janet, thank you for sharing the perspectives and backgrounds of so many of our colleagues. You make names and faces come alive in this interviews!
I love doing them! Why haven’t I interviewed you?
Because I’m boring? 😉
That’s definitely not it.
Thanks Julie.
Always enjoy your sunny smile and disposition at conference.
Hope to see you at NAPO Summit
Hi Alice! Sounds like you found the right niche for you. I marvel at anyone who works with the Chronically Disorganized, challenging but very rewarding.
Thanks, Janet.
Helping folks who struggle with Chronic Disorganization IS very rewarding. They are so appreciative.
What a wonderful interview with Alice! She is one of our industry treasures and has done so much for NAPO and especially ICD. She’s what we call a “super volunteer.” The countless hours she’s devoted to ICD in many areas are truly amazing. I feel lucky to have her as a colleague and friend.
I admire the brevity of her responses. It’s no simple thing to reduce your life’s work into such few words. But that’s Alice. She’s direct and gets to the heart of things quickly.
Thank you for sharing about her with us. Love this series!
I’m glad you’re enjoying the series, Linda! Everyone has a unique background and story to tell.
Thanks Linda.
I remember the day I met you in Minneapolis many, many years ago. You have been a mentor and an inspiration. Thanks you for all your selfless contributions to this wonderful industry. Hope to see you in Las Vegas!
Thank you for sharing this interview with Alice! I enjoy hearing about other Professional Organizers and how they are succeeding in their businesses.
I know what you mean – everyone’s story is unique!
So much of our success is attributable to the mutual support of each other.
Great interview with Alice Price! I have known Alice for years. We became close friends when we volunteered to co-chair ICD’s first virtual conference in 2018. Now, we rarely go a full week without talking to one another. She’s a gem!
Isn’t it wonderful to have someone like that in your circle?
Thanks, Diane.
To look at us we are completely opposite. Diane is tall, slim, blonde and every inch a lady. I am short, squat and a gruff Brooklyn street kid. Despite our differences, we have become best friends. I encourage everyone to volunteer in some way. You never know, what (or who) you will find!
