Starting a new business can be challenging, but with the right tools and support, it can also be incredibly rewarding. If you know someone who has recently taken the leap and started their own business, you may be wondering what you can do to help.
While there are many ways to support a new business owner, one of the best things you can do is give them a helpful gift that can aid in their success. In this post, we’ll share five useful and thoughtful gifts that you can give to a new business owner.
A Business Planning Toolkit
Every new business owner needs a solid business plan, and a business planning toolkit can be a helpful gift to give. This toolkit could include templates for business plans, financial planning spreadsheets, and industry research tools. By giving a business planning toolkit, you’ll be providing a valuable resource that can help the new business owner set goals, track progress, and make informed decisions.
Creating a custom business planning toolkit can be a wonderful gift for any new business owner. You could start by doing research to identify the most useful tools and resources for their particular industry. Next, compile the items into a kit and consider adding a personalized message that explains why you chose each item. If you are able to, you may also want to include additional items such as business books, stationary or a planner to help the new business owner stay organized. Whatever you choose, your thoughtful gift will be sure to make an impact.
A Professional Development Course
Running a successful business requires ongoing learning and development. Consider giving the gift of a professional development course that can help the new business owner develop their skills and stay up-to-date with industry trends. This could be a course on marketing, social media management, financial management, or any other topic relevant to their business.
There are plenty of options available when it comes to finding professional development courses for a new business owner. You can find online leadership training, or contact local universities and community colleges to see if they offer any relevant classes. Depending on the type of course you’re looking for, there may also be workshops offered by small business organizations or industry associations in your area.
Do some research to find the best option for the new business owner you are gifting. With a professional development course, you’ll be giving them an invaluable resource that can help their business grow and thrive.
A Subscription to a Business Magazine or Publication
Knowledge is power in the business world, and a subscription to a business magazine or publication can provide valuable insights and tips for success. Choose a publication that aligns with the new business owner’s industry or interests and provide them with a valuable resource for ongoing education and inspiration.
Finding the best business magazine or publication for a new business owner can be tricky, as there are hundreds of options available. Research is key when looking for something suitable. Start by researching popular publications in the industry that the business owner works in and read reviews to get an idea of what content they provide.
Additionally, consider searching online for industry-specific publications that could provide more detailed and in-depth information. There are also many magazines available as digital subscriptions, so the new business owner can access them from anywhere at any time. With a bit of research, you can easily find the perfect magazine or publication for the special business owner in your life.
A Business Mentorship Program
Starting a new business can be lonely, and a business mentoring program can provide much-needed support and guidance. Consider giving the gift of a mentorship program that can connect the new business owner with experienced mentors who can provide advice, feedback, and support.
If you are a mentor looking for a helpful gift to give to a new business owner, consider offering your own time and expertise. Consider committing to regular mentoring meetings with the business owner to provide guidance and support for their venture. You can also offer resources such as books, articles, podcasts or other materials that could help them develop their skills.
Additionally, give them access to your network of contacts if you are able to, as this can be invaluable for any new business. Giving out helpful advice and connecting them with other professionals in the industry can be some of the most valuable gifts a mentor can offer a budding entrepreneur.
A Gift Card for Professional Services
Finally, consider giving the gift of professional services that the new business owner may need but may not be able to afford. This could be a gift card for graphic design services, bookkeeping services, or legal services. By providing this type of support, you’ll be helping the new business owner save money and focus on growing their business.
Asking for a gift card to cover professional services for a new business owner can be a great way to show you care. Reach out to the professionals or companies that provide the service and ask if they offer gift cards. Explain why you are looking for a gift card and how it would help the business owner. You may also want to mention that you are willing to spread the word about their services to your own network. Most businesses will be happy to help and may even offer a discount on the gift card.
Starting a new business is not easy, but with the right tools and support, it can be a rewarding and successful experience. By giving the gift of success, you can help new business owners on their journey and provide them with the resources they need to succeed.
From business planning toolkits and professional development courses to mentorship programs and gift cards for professional services, there are many thoughtful gifts that can help a new business owner on their path to success. So why not give the gift of success and help someone achieve their dreams today!

Wonderful ideas! I never thought of giving these kinds of gifts to a new business owner, but they are terrific. I know there were many “business” items I would have loved when I was starting out. Very thoughtful!
I wouldn’t have either, but they are great ideas. My financial advisor once bought me a one-year membership with our local Chamber of Commerce, which was much appreciated and allowed me to connect with many people I probably wouldn’t have met otherwise.
These are unique gift ideas! Like Seana, they aren’t something I’d thought about before, and I am happy to have these ideas for future reference.
I know what you mean! I have honestly never thought of giving a gift to someone who is starting their own business, even though I was happy to receive one , which I mentioned to Seana, above. I suppose it wouldn’t even have to be specifically a “congrats on starting your business” gift but could be for any occasion if you have a friend or family member who would appreciate it.
These are all great ideas. I’m a big fan of giving books and magazines on entrepreneurship, marketing, etc., to new business owners, though it’s not always a “new” new gift. When my hair stylist left the salon where she was working and opened her own, I passed along all the books that helped me as a startup (and which I felt were still applicable now), as I couldn’t be sure which newer books in the market were good, since I hadn’t read them. I do have to wonder, though, how someone without any business-owning experience would be able to pick a training course or create a business tool kit for someone else. I’ve run my own business for more than two decades, but wouldn’t have a clue how to advise anyone (beyond very general notions) in another profession.
These are definitely intriguing ideas. Thank you for sharing!
I agree that it could be hard to choose a gift for a new business owner if you’ve never been one, but I think most of my readers here have businesses. If you did want to buy a gift for someone in a different profession, you could reach out to other people in that field, or look at their websites for recommendations. Or go for something that would apply to anyone, such as Profit First, or membership in a local networking group.
